Issues that people are concerned about: Rising Cost of Living

The rising cost of living is indeed a great factor in which the voters think about before they cast their votes. According to my research, voters are concerned that the price of hawkers, meals at food court and basic necessities will increase. The middle-class citizens are most concerned as they do not have the money to cope with the inflation and they would not receive subsidy from the government. Thus, the government announced a 'Grow and Share' package to help Singapore citizens cope with the inflation. However, the rising cost of living has yet to be resolved. How do you feel about this topic, let me know by commenting!

Issues that people are concerned about: Housing

Housing, another red hot topic Singaporeans are talking about during the elections. Will the HDB price go down? Will higher-income couples have subsidy to buy HDB? These are the common questions asked. The reasons in which ignited these concerns are the soaring house prices and the long waiting list for a house. Statistics show that from the first quarter of 2006 to the first quarter of this year, the went up from 101.8 to 174.8, an increase of 71.7 per cent. The rapid population growth in the country resulted in the sudden demand for housing, thus creating the long wait for a house. Different parties has different opinions on this issue. The NSP and SDP had suggested that HDB flat prices should be priced according to costs, not the current method of pegging them according to market prices of resale flats, and then discounting the price. However, the WP wants HDB flat prices pegged to median incomes so that more Singaporeans can afford it. So, what do you think sbout the housing issue in Singapore? Tell me by commenting!

Issues that people are concerned about: Public Transport

Public transport is a vital part of most Singaporeans lives. They use it to go to school, to work, to have fun and to return home. Hence, public transport is very important as Singapore is a tiny island and is not necessary to use a car to get around. There are two main companies which provide public transport for us. SMRT and SBS. As everyone says,'when there is competition, there is improvement'. These two companies may seem like they are rival companies but they are not competing with each other. Both companies deploy their buses on different routes and build their MRT at different locations, thus increasing their profit. So how can the public transport improve in terms of quality and service? Even without improving, the travel fares increase nonetheless. Why is that so? Ironically, public transports are public even though they are owned by private companies. Tell me your views in the comment box down below!

Issues that people are concerned about: Foreign Workers and Talents

Singaporeans are getting more and more concerned about the amount of foreign talents and workers present in the country. Although we all know, letting in foreign talents and workers into the country, is for the country's own good and that without them, Singapore's economy would not grow as the rate it is growing now. In other words, Singapore cannot survive without foreign labour. This fact is not exactly a good thing for Singapore as it is over-dependence on other countries and if other countries fall, we will, too. Another thing that disturbs Singaporeans is the fact that the white-collar jobs for us is constantly being threatened by foreign labour. The ministers cannot blame the Singaporeans for feeling disturbed as their jobs are at stake.
Letting in more foreign labour may put the country's reputated safety and cleanliness at stake. The foreign workers can be seen at almost every void deck, grass patch and shopping mall. Wherever they go, they dress scantily and go out in large menacing numbers. Not that I have anything against foreign workers, but they litter around void decks and stare at people when they walk by. I hope you can share your opinions regarding this topic in the comments!
